One East bound lane on Cimitiere Street, between Bathurst Street and Charles Street, will be closed from Wednesday May 17 to allow construction works at the C.H. Smith site.

The temporary lane closure is expected to remain in place until mid-July, and will allow pile-driving and foundation works to be undertaken on the southern side of the C.H. Smith site.

City of Launceston General Manager Robert Dobrzynski asked for motorists' patience while the temporary lane closure was in place.

"The C.H. Smith site has been an eyesore in Launceston for many decades, and the Council knows many residents are excited to finally see work underway," Mr Dobrzynski said.

"This will bring with it some disruption to traffic around the site for the next few months, and we would like to ask people to drive with care, obey warning signage, and to please be patient while the work proceeds."
