Members of the public are invited to ask questions at each Council Meeting. If you wish to ask a question at a Council Meeting there are some protocols you must follow.

How to speak at a Council Meeting or Council Committee

Public Question Time: at each Council meeting or Council committee meeting, we invite members from the public to ask questions on any matter relating to Council. Individuals are able to ask a maximum of three questions.

If you wish to ask a question at a Council meeting you will need to write it down and submit it to the General Manager. This is done by filling out a carbon copy pad that is located outside the entrance to the Council Chamber.

The Mayor can decide whether or not to accept the question/s. Question/s may be answered on the day or taken on notice and answered within 10 working days of the meeting.

Notice of Intention to Speak: the public is able to speak at a Council meeting for a maximum of two minutes, on any matter regarding Council business.

If you wish to speak on an item, you need to register your intention before the Council meeting starts. To do this, you enter your name under the Agenda item you want to speak on. The form is available outside the entrance to the Council Chamber.
