General Manager, Frank Dixon

Frank Dixon joined Launceston City Council as General Manager in June 2006. He had previously spent 22 years at Hume City Council in Victoria where his last role was Executive Director. He played a key role in working with education providers, businesses and the community in establishing the internationally recognised Hume Global Learning Village.

Mr Dixon's significant achievements with Launceston City Council include overseeing the preparation of a Ten Year Major Works Program and Financial Sustainability Plan as well as conducting a review of all operations to ensure greater levels of efficiency.
He won the Professional Leader of the Year - Corporate at the Tasmanian Business Leaders Awards 2008.
 
Corporate Services Director, Michael Tidey
 
Michael Tidey has spent the last 23 years working at Launceston City Council. During that time he has held the positions of Accountant, Manager Finance and Corporate Services Director.
 
Mr Tidey's significant achievements have been the implementation of computerised systems, the restructure and reduction in Council's loan debt and representing Local Government in the reform of State and Local Government Financial Relations.
 
Communications and Economic Development Director, Becky Shrimpton
 
Becky Shrimpton joined Council in May 2006 and was appointed communications and Economic Development Director in January 2007. Mrs Shrimpton has 23 years of marketing and communications experience, winning national and international awards in eco-tourism, arts, heritage and recreation in NZ, WA and UK. Before moving permanently to Tasmania, Mrs Shrimpton was Head of Communications and External Affairs for England's Commission for Rural Communities.
 
Mrs Shrimpton's achievements since joining Council include forging links between local councils and industry to develop and promote Launceston Tamar Valley as a distinct tourism destination, with 2006/07 visitor statistics showing an upturn in visitor nights and expenditure. Becky has also overseen the development of a new Launceston City Council Communication Strategy to improve two-way communication between Council and its ratepayers, residents and stakeholders. Becky was named winner of the Tasmanian 2008 Telstra Business Women's Awards in the IBM Community and Government Development category.
 
Development Services Director, Ian Abernethy
 
Ian Abernethy joined Launceston City Council in 1999. Since then he has held the positions of Divisional Manager Strategic Development, Group Manager Sustainability and Development Services Director. Mr Abernethy has 33 years of experience in Local Government having previously worked at councils throughout Australia and Scotland.
 
During his time at Launceston City Council, Mr Abernethy has played an integral role in securing a number of national awards in the categories of tourism development and youth engagement.
 
Infrastructure Services Director, Harry Galea
 
Harry Galea has spent the past three years working at the Launceston City Council. He has over 30 years of experience in Local Government having previously worked at a number of councils across Victoria and Tasmania. Mr Galea previously held the position of Manager Infrastructure Development at Council.
 
Mr Galea's significant achievements include being awarded the National Landcare Award for the Bush Web Project and the State Local Government Association of Tasmania (LGAT) Gold Excellence Award for Waste Management. Mr Galea is also a National Board Member on the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia, representing Tasmania.
 
Resident and Leisure Services Director, Rod Sweetnam
 
Rod Sweetnam has spent 19 years working at Launceston City Council. He has 32 years of experience in Local Government having previously worked at a number of councils around Australia. Mr Sweetnam has held several positions during his time at Launceston City Council including Director of Parks and Recreation, Acting General Manager, Group Manager of Operations and Resident and Leisure Services Director.
 
Mr Sweetnam's significant achievements include securing agreement from regional councils to introduce a waste levy and facilitating the development of a $26 million Regional Aquatic Centre for Launceston. Mr Sweetnam recently won the Local Government Association of Tasmania (LGAT) Award for Excellence for Outstanding Commitment and Service to Local Government.
 
Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery Director, Patrick Filmer-Sankey
 
Patrick Filmer-Sankey joined Council in December 2006 as Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery (QVMAG) Director. He has more than 25 years of experience in museums, including Deputy Director of the Australian Museum in Sydney and Director of the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory.
 
Mr Filmer-Sankey's achievements at Council include facilitating a major reorganisation of QVMAG in which Inveresk is to become a hands-on social and natural sciences centre, while Royal Park will be returned to its former glory as a fine and decorative art gallery.
