Council Budgets and 10 Year Major Works Program PDF Print E-mail

Council delivers and supports a huge range of local services.  We manage more than $850 million of community assets and undertake an annual capital works program of around $50 million.

Each year we set rates by estimating the cost of services, infrastructure and projects that will need to be funded during the year.  We then estimate how much of this revenue we will receive as grants from the State and Federal Governments together with fees and charges, leaving the remainder to come from rates.

Councils across Australia face challenges in building, maintaining and renewing assets.  If infrastructure such as buildings, roads, pipes and sewerage treatment plants are not adequately maintained, future communities suffer from massive rectification costs.  We are meeting these challenges head-on by allocating more than $373 million in major works in our city over 10 years (including $116 million for water and sewer works which will transfer to the new corporation).

Our 10 year financial plan enables us to maintain an average rate of increase that is not a lot more than CPI levels to meet community needs and to ensure that our ageing infrastructure is adequately maintained.
