Community Recreation Leaders Award PDF Print E-mail

The Community Recreation Leaders Award (CRLA) is a 10-week training program for anyone over 15 years of age who wants to develop skills in recreation leadership. It tackles the big issues that confront everyone who runs an active recreation session.

Typical CRLA participants might be students, young people, youth workers, health workers, teachers, sports coaches or volunteers in sports clubs, church groups and state or local government.

The CRLA is a practical program designed particularly for those who have limited or no formal training. Participants do not require a high level of fitness or ability, but a willingness to apply good leadership principles is essential.

Sessions include Principles of Good Practice, Improvisation and Modified Codes, First Aid, Fitness for Recreation, Effective Umpiring, Organising Events and Competitions, Effective Coaching, Inclusive Recreation, Risk Management and a Community Placement.

The CRLA is delivered by a team of highly qualified local tutors drawn from across the recreation industry. The CRLA has been made possible through support form Launceston City Council, Esk Education District and Sport and Recreation Tasmania.
