Council Bursary and Scholarship

The Launceston City Council's Bursary and University Scholarship are a great examples of the Council’s commitment to learning and innovation, and its investment in the community of Launceston.

PLEASE NOTE: The process for applying for the Bursary or Scholarship has changed as per a Council decision in 2011.
  

The Council's University Scholarship
The Launceston City Council University Scholarship is awarded annually to a student commencing university studies. This Scholarship is valued at $4,000 per year for three years, subject to satisfactory academic progress unless extenuating circumstances apply.

University students applying for the Scholarship are to undertake their studies at the University of Tasmania (UTAS) and must be a first year student in the calendar year immediately following the year the student applies for the Scholarship.

All applicants must reside in the Launceston City Council municipality at the time of application.

UTAS are responsible for all administration associated with this Scholarship.

The Council's Bursary
The Launceston City Council 'Springboard to Higher Education' Bursary is awarded annually to students graduating year 10. Students receive payments of $500 in year 11, $750 in year 12 and $1,000 in their first year of university, which is matched by the University of Tasmania, bringing the total award to $3,250 over 3 years.

The Bursary will be awarded annually to each of the following six state high schools:

  • Brooks High School
  • Kings Meadows High School
  • Lilydale District High School
  • Prospect High School
  • Queechy High School
  • Riverside High School

All applicants must reside in the Launceston City Council municipality at the time of application.

UTAS are responsible for all administration associated with this Bursary.
