Launceston's Economic Profile
The Launceston Economic Profile is now available. It has been designed to assist the Launceston City Council as well as local businesses, potential investors, prospective new residents, researchers, students and media organisations) understand the local economy and to attract investment to the region. The profile provides valuable insights into Launceston’s workforce, highlights opportunities for import replacement and captures the role of tourism in the local economy.

It incorporates engaging economic data, dynamic thematic mapping, time series analysis, building statistics and economic indicators.  It has been designed to be easy to use and is an ideal resource for sharing information; graphs, charts, tables and maps generated by Launceston’s economic profile can be easily saved, emailed or shared with others via social media. 

The statistics featured within the profile have come from various reliable data sources including the Australian Bureau of Statistics, REMPLAN, DEEWR, and other government departments. Developed by REMPLAN, the profile is automatically updated when new data becomes available.  It also includes links to other resources which may be of interest to the user.

The Launceston City Council has signed up to profile.id which provides online demographic data and a social atlas for the municipality.
 
This is a fantastic resource for the Council and Launceston residents. Profile.id uses Census data to detail the characteristics of Launceston, how our city is changing and how it compares to other areas. It lists information about our residents such as their age, where they live and the jobs they do. The information will be updated with 2011 Census data when it becomes available in 2012.
 
The Launceston Community Profile contains data from the population Census for the past 15 years. It includes charts which can be easily exported into reports. The Community Atlas extends this capability as it provides maps of 70 characteristics (such as population, income and education) across the municipality.
 
Profile.id will assist the Council in planning for service delivery, asset management, funding submissions, investment attraction and advocacy work. It is also designed to inform community groups, investors, business, students and the general public. Currently profile.id is used by more than 220 councils across Australia.
