The annual Heritage Awards recognise projects that have improved heritage buildings -- while maintaining the property’s heritage value -- or projects which have promoted heritage issues in Launceston.
There are four award categories:
Residential
Mixed use
Non Residential, and;
Promotion of Heritage
The first three categories are for building works completed in the last two years.
Applicants entering these categories should address the following criteria in their application:
Respect for the original building fabric
Continuing the positive use/re-use of the building
Sympathetic to the context within which the building is located
Addressing the concept of sustainability
Consistency with the principles of the ICAMOS Burra Charter.
The Promotion of Heritage Category will be awarded to a project completed in the past two years which, in the view of the judges, provides an outstanding contribution to the promotion or understanding of heritage in Launceston.
All entries will be considered by the members of the Launceston City Council Heritage Advisory Committee – each entry will be subject to a site visit.
The judge’s decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
The winners of each category will receive a significant cash prize and a framed certificate.
The prize will be awarded to the property owner/s. Certificates will also be presented to designers/builders identified for their contribution to winning projects.
An awards ceremony will be held on 24 May 2012 to announce the winners.
The submission should include a written entry (no longer than two A4 pages) describing the property and the works undertaken.
Up to four colour photos of the works may be included.
Good quality digital copies of these photos would be appreciated for use in promotion and publishing and for viewing at the Awards presentation.
If, for privacy reasons, you do not want Council to use these photos for these purposes, please indicate this when the entry is submitted.
Applicants are also encouraged to identify the architects/designers and builders who worked on the project so they may be recognised.
The closing date for submissions is Tuesday 08 May 2012. UPDATE: Please note the deadline for entries has been extended from Tuesday 1 May to Tuesday 8 May.
