Forest Road, Trevallyn

The Forest Road rehabilitation project is included in the City of Launceston's Accelerated Capital Works Program.

This upcoming project will extend from Bain Terrace through to the municipality boundary (55 Forest Road) also including Cherry Road through to the municipality boundary (13 Cherry Road).

The extent of works will include:

  • Renewal of the road surface

  • Localised footpath works

  • Localised kerb and channel works

Traffic management will be implemented throughout the work sites with the potential for road closures and detours.

Due to the high volume of traffic on Forest Road, it is inevitable that any works will have an impact on the general public. However, we are committed to delivering this project with as little inconvenience as possible.

Scheduling for these projects have not yet been determined however, further information regarding timing and traffic impacts will be provided once the dates have been confirmed.

UPDATE 12/04/2021:

The contract for this project has now been awarded to Crossroads Civil Pty Ltd with the works now underway.

The program below will outline the specifics of this project including approximate timeframes:

 Stage one - Civil works:

Stage one will include the preparation works that need to be completed prior to the reseal. This will continue for approximately two weeks and will include localised civil works such as renewals to driveway crossovers, upgraded kerb and channel and footpath works. These works will be conducted during the day between the hours of 7am to 5pm. Private residences will be notified directly by the contractor if their driveway access is to be compromised prior to any works commencing.

Traffic management such as reduced speed limits will be in place during this time, however it is important to note that two-way traffic will be maintained where possible throughout the duration of the project to ensure that the flow of traffic is consistent.

Stage two - Asphalt seal:

Stage two will see the works begin to reseal the road. At this time, there is no confirmed date for when the reseal work will begin, however further information will be provided as there will be significant traffic management in place throughout this stage.

Project updates will be provided on this page.

UPDATE 12/05/2021: All kerb and channel works are now complete. Sealing works will commence in the coming weeks. Dates will be provided once confirmed.

UPDATE 21/06/2021:

We would like to provide you with an update on the progress of this project.

At this stage, all of the kerb and channel works are complete. This has seen a significant amount of damaged kerb replaced as well as several sections of infrastructure repaired.

There will be also be footpath works completed towards the end of July which will see a number sections of damaged and uneven footpath replaced.

Unfortunately due to the colder weather conditions, the temperatures are now not suitable to lay the final asphalt seal on the road. At this stage, this is expected to begin in late September when the warmer weather conditions return.

If we were to attempt to complete the final seal during these weather conditions, the seal is more likely to fail prematurely resulting in uneven surfaces and further works. During the winter period, the current section of road will have temporary patchwork completed and will be maintained regularly by our project team.

We acknowledge that this delay will cause some inconvenience and we do apologise for the extended amount of time that this project has taken. We will do our best to minimise the disruption during this time and thank you for your patience and co-operation throughout the coming months.

Further information will be provided to you when there is a confirmed date for the final reseal to commence.
