Invermay Road Rehabilitation Project

The City of Launceston will be completing a road rehabilitation project on Invermay Road from Forster Street to Vermont Road as part of its Accelerated Capital Works Program.

The contract for this project has now been awarded to Crossroads Civil Pty Ltd with possession of the site commencing on Monday, 15 February 2021.

Due to the high volume of businesses and residential properties in this area, it has been determined that the schedule of works will be divided into day, night and weekend works. This approach will help alleviate any major disruptions to businesses and residents along Invermay Road. The 10 week program below will outline the specifics of this project including approximate timeframes:

Stage one civil works - Monday, 15 February to mid-March:

The civil works component of this project will continue for the full project length and include the removal of existing traffic islands, renewal of localised kerb and channel and driveway crossovers. These works will be conducted during the day between the hours of 7am to 5pm. Impact to traffic while the civil works are conducted will be minimal due to the localised areas of work. Businesses and private residences will be notified directly by Crossroads if they are to be impacted by these works.

Stage two asphalt reseal - mid-March to late April:

Stage two will see the works begin to reseal the road from Forster Street to Vermont Road in mid-March and continue for the remaining project time for approximately 3 days at a time. To avoid the peak hour traffic times the contractors will complete the preparation works between the hours of 9am to 3pm. The contractors will then return to complete night works from 7pm to 6am. During this time, each section of road will be returned to a resealed surface or a driveable surface by the next day.

Key information:

  • Traffic management such as reduced speed limits will be in place during this time, however it is important to note that two-way traffic will be maintained where possible throughout the duration of the project to ensure that the flow of traffic is consistent.
  • The contractor will also ensure that sufficient room for parking will be left outside those businesses without off-street parking throughout the course of the project.
  • Preparations for road resealing (milling) on the section of Invermay Road between Forster Street and Lytton Street will be carried out between 9am and 3pm with crews returning at night between 7pm and 6am for resealing.
  • The section between Eddington Street and McKenzie Street (milling as well as resealing) will also be undertaken at night. All other sections will be completed during the day.

  • Asphalt works (milling as well as resealing) between Ross Avenue and Roslyn Road will be completed as day works on Saturday and Sunday in early April.

  • We acknowledge that the lights and sounds associated with this type of work will bring some inconvenience, however we will be working with Crossroads to minimise the disruption as much as possible. We are confident that the inclusion of day, night and weekend zones will not only minimise disruptions but also progress the project quickly.

Project updates will be provided on this page.
