About the project

The City of Launceston has budgeted $300,000 for the upgrade (including a $45,000 grant from the Tasmanian Community Fund) of the Ravenswood Outdoor Community Space at Prossers Forest Road Park, Ravenswood.

The project will represent a significant upgrade to the skate park's ageing infrastructure and follows consultation sessions held with Ravenswood community members and Launceston skaters last year, in partnership with consultants Ramp Wizard and Concrete Dreams.

Stage 1 of the park redevelopment project has been completed, with the construction of a dedicated new concrete skate facility, complete with a cantilevered ramp, grinding rails, quarter pipes, hips and grinding ledges. Instalation of a basketball half-court also completed.

Stage 2 will be the Play Space area which includes a toddler space, natural play space, new landscaping, shade shelters and much more. Concept design currently underway.

Community competition closed and votes counted - winning name for the park is...

In April, Ravenswood residents were invited to suggest a name for the Ravenswood Outdoor Community Space.

The response was fantastic with over 120 name suggestions received. There have been some great suggestions, thank you to everyone who submitted a name.

The names were reviewed by Council Officers and the Nomenclature Board of Tasmania to the shortlist of the five names as listed below.

  1. Ravens Nest Park
  2. McGown Park (David McGown owned land which eventually became the suburb of Ravenswood)
  3. Ravens Park
  4. Ravenswood Adventure Park
  5. Nest Park

These five names were taken back out to the Ravenswood community to vote on their favourite name.

Voting closed on Sunday, 2 September 2018 and the name that received the most votes was - Ravenswood Adventure Park.

Well done to everyone that got involved in the naming competition - it showed great community spirit.
