Heritage Snap! 2023
Heritage Snap! is an exciting competition open to children and young people aged 6 - 17 years. Entries are now closed.
The City of Launceston is pleased to announce the three winners of our Heritage Snap! competition for 2023: Amelie Tierney (aged 7), Darcy Moore (Aged 10), and Jasper Lee (age 14). The aim of the competition was to highlight Launceston's unique character as Australia's third oldest city, and what that means to our school age cohort. The entries certainly did not disappoint.
Amelie found the statue of Ronald Campbell Gunn in City Park inspiring as a budding Botanist themselves; Darcy was reminded of Thomas the Tank Engine in Launceston's train yards; whilst Jasper felt connection to Launceston's industrial past at Duck Reach. Thank you to all who entered the competition, for sharing your thought-provoking connections to our beautiful heritage city.

'I value the statue of Ronald Campbell Gunn in City Park because he was a botanist and I want to be a botanist too!'
Age group: 7 - 10 years
Photographer: Darcy Moore
'I value the old broken down Tomas the tank engine train because it reminds me of when I used to watch Tomas on TV.'
Age group: 14 - 17 years

'I admire the Duck Reach Power Station because of its long history dating back to 1895. I have many happy memories visiting the Power Station, including times with my friends playing on the rocks or learning interesting stuff about the facility. This place has played an important role in building our industrial past and for 60 years it provided nearly all of our city’s electricity needs. For how important this building was to our community, it is sad to now see it in its current condition.'
Divided into three age categories, entrants are encouraged to snap a photo of a heritage site in Launceston and share a description relating to this year's theme 'Places we value in our community'. One winner from each age category will go into the draw to win a $500 voucher!
Entries open: 9am Saturday 30th of September 2023
Entries close: 5pm Sunday 15th of October 2023
Winners announced: Monday 30th of October 2023
