Cataract Walk & Trevallyn Steps track - Closure

The Cataract Walk, between Kings Bridge and the Cliff Grounds, and the Trevallyn Steps track, between South Esk Rd and Kings Bridge, are currently closed to the public, following the failure of a privately-owned retaining wall at a property on South Esk Road.

In September 2023 the Council appointed a contractor to oversee the removal of the retaining wall, with the goal of opening the walkway to the public early in 2024.

It's expected work on removing the wall will be underway in November.

All other walking tracks in the Cataract Gorge remain open to the public, including the Zig Zag track between Kings Bridge and the First Basin. It is important to know that the Zig Zag track has steep and challenging terrain and should only be attempted by capable and experienced walkers.

We ask for the community's patience as we go about this work, and we will continue to provide updates to keep people informed.
