Petitions are a way for you to formally bring a matter to the attention of Council.

Your petition can be tabled at a Council meeting but you need to;

  • Provide the minimum detail required by the legislation;
  • Avoid saying things that are defamatory; and
  • Not suggest any action that is unlawful.

The legal requirements for petitions, are described in full in Part 6 of the Local Government Act 1993.
