Parental Supervision

It is a condition of entry that all children must be accompanied and actively supervised by a parent or guardian over the age of 16 while at the Launceston Leisure & Aquatic Centre. Children will not be accepted into lessons if a parent or guardian is absent. Children under 6 years old must have a responsible person within arm’s reach at all times. If your child is under 3 years we require a parent or guardian over the age of 16 years to be in the water with them during their class. This is for your child’s safety and confidence.

Continuous Progression

All children learn at a different pace and it is important that children are continually challenged in their lessons. Therefore, Swim School students will be assessed weekly and will be given the option to progress to the next class level. Sometimes this means changing the time, day or instructor, but this will be discussed on an individual basis. We aim to have all children in classes that suit their abilities.

All students are to wear appropriate swimwear. We suggest students have their own set of goggles and a swimming cap. T-shirts, wetsuits and other street wear is not permitted. We also recommend against wearing board shorts or rash vests, so your child can move freely in the water. All children that normally wear a nappy are required to wear some form of aqua nappy if swimming in a public facility (Public Health Act 1997). Please ensure that your children are suitably attired for the comfort and safety of all patrons. Our swim school students are also entitled to a 10% discount in our swim shop!

Throughout the calendar year students are entitled to four lessons worth of suspensions. Suspensions can be used for holidays or for any other circumstance that may arise. You will not be charged for missed lessons relating to illness if you are able to supply us with a medical certificate. Lesson suspension requests must be made via our online suspension form, which is available via the link below.
