Danny Gibson tenders resignation

City of Launceston Councillor Danny Gibson has ended his term as a Councillor, effective today.

The former Mayor has served the Launceston community for 15 years, making a significant contribution to local government and the city’s development over that time.

Mayor Matthew Garwood acknowledged Cr Gibson’s long-standing service and dedication to the community.

“Danny has given 15 years of service to the people of Launceston, and that's something that deserves recognition.” Mayor Garwood said.

“Local government is not always easy. It requires resilience, commitment and a genuine care for community, and Danny has demonstrated those qualities throughout his time on Council.

“On behalf of Council, I thank Danny for his contribution and wish him all the best for the future.”

Cr Gibson said the timing was right to step away.

“With an election approaching, no requirement for a countback to fill my seat, and time to reflect over recent weeks, now is the right time,” Cr Gibson said.

“It has been a privilege to serve the Launceston community over the past 15 years. I have given my full commitment to the role and worked to make a meaningful contribution, even in the face of significant challenges.”

Cr Gibson said he was proud of his time in the role and the opportunity to support the community.

“Supporting residents, businesses, and organisations across our city has been an honour,” he said.

“Launceston is an extraordinary city. It has been a privilege to serve -not only as an elected representative, but as part of this community.”

Cr Gibson also acknowledged his colleagues and Council staff.

“I have had the honour of working alongside dedicated and community-minded elected representatives, whose commitment to good governance has been invaluable,” he said.

“I also acknowledge the many Council staff who continue to serve our community with professionalism and care."
