Fuel Reduction Burns at Punchbowl and Carr Villa

Published on 06 May 2022

If forecast weather conditions remain favourable, the City of Launceston will undertake fuel reduction burns at Punchbowl Reserve and at Carr Villa Memorial Park on Monday, May 9.

The Norwood entrance to Punchbowl Reserve will be closed from approximately 9.30am for the duration of the burn or until deemed safe.
Access will still be available to the reserve from the Punchbowl Road entrance.

The fuel reduction burn at Carr Villa will take place in the south-east corner of the park, adjacent to the Carr Villa Flora Reserve.

Punchbowl Reserve and Carr Villa Memorial Park are among 12 sites we've identified for fuel reduction burns as part of our 2022 program.

Detailed operational plans have been prepared for each burn including risk assessments and smoke modelling and dispersion.

While fire intensity is expected to be low, burns will generate flames, smoke and ash which may persist until the next rainfall event.

People with medical conditions are advised to have a personal plan for avoiding smoke from fuel reduction burns.

Advice is available from the Department of Health and Human Services website or Asthma Foundation of Tasmania's website.

Notifications of scheduled burns will continue to be updated on the Tasmania Fire Service website, as well as the City of Launceston's website.
