Some of Tasmanian cricket's up-and-coming stars of the future - and one or two well-known players - will be on show at University of Tasmania Stadium this week.

Tasmania will take on New South Wales in a Toyota Futures League game at the stadium starting today.

The Futures League series is Australia's national second XI competition run by Cricket Australia and forms part of the body's development programme.

The Tasmanian team includes Test bowler Jackson Bird, alongside regular Tigers players Gabe Bell, Jake Doran, Riley Meredith and Sam Rainbird.

The NSW team includes former Tigers Shield player Ed Cowan and NSW paceman Trent Copeland.

The Tasmanian team is coached by Jeff Vaughan, while former Westbury player Shannon Tubb is the assistant coach for the Tigers.

The Tasmanian under-23 side is the reigning four-day Futures champions, having won last year's competition for the first time since its inception in the 2006-07 season.

However, the Tigers have lost both their Futures League matches this season - against Western Australia and Queensland. The NSW side has one win and a draw to its name.

Play starts at 10.30am today and runs through until Thursday.
