Concessional Entry into Waste Centres

Learn more about concessional entry opportunities at waste centres within the Launceston Municipality, below.

Community Organisation Annual Waste Concession Program

The City of Launceston’s Annual Waste Concession Program offers subsidised entry to local waste centres for eligible community groups and not-for-profit organisations throughout the financial year.

It’s a simple way to reduce costs while making environmentally responsible waste‑disposal choices for your organisation.

The conditions of this initiative are set out in the Concessional Entry to Council's Waste Disposal Policy(PDF, 204KB).

Free Entry Vouchers for Launceston Waste Centres

Each year, the City of Launceston provides households one voucher for free entry to a Council-managed waste centre at any time throughout the year. The 2025/26 waste vouchers are expected to be delivered to residents in August 2025.

The voucher allows residents a single free entry to a Council-managed waste centre to dispose of domestic items. Any single vehicle presenting multiple vouchers, on behalf of different residents, will be allowed a maximum of three free voucher entries, per year.

Valid for City of Launceston residents only.

If you are redeeming your voucher at the Launceston Waste Centre, it will need to be validated at the recycling centre prior to disposing of items — this is to ensure any recyclables and reusable items are diverted from landfill.

The following cannot be disposed of using a voucher:

  • Controlled waste
    - Controlled or hazardous waste
    - Asbestos
    - Contaminated soil
  • Tyres
  • Fridges or Freezers
  • Mattresses

Please note, loads considered to be larger than "domestic" in size are not permitted entry with a voucher and will instead be charged as per the normal disposal fees.

Pensioner Concession

Pensioners and pensioner householders who hold a Commonwealth Pensioner Card may be eligible to receive a Council appointed concession card, known as a Smart Card.

Eligible pensioners will receive an annual allowance to spend on waste disposal activities at Waste Centres.

More information is available on the SmartCard page.
