McKellar Road Rehabilitation (Kintail Crescent to Talbot Road)

13 April 2026

Due to unforeseen delays, the completion of works has been extended and is now expected to be finalised by early May.

As part of the remaining works, temporary road closures will be in place on Wednesday 22 April, Thursday 23 April and Thursday 30 April on McKellar Road.

Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 April 2026 - 7am to 5pm:

Grading works will be completed between 15 McKellar Road and 23 McKellar Road, and a road closure will be in place between Talbot Road and Amy Road, however local residents will be provided access.

• Properties numbered between 1 to 15 McKellar Road can be accessed via Talbot Road only.
• Properties between Amy Road and 23 McKellar Road can be accessed via Amy Road only.
• Properties in Kintail Crescent, Atlas Street, Junction Street, Lennon Rise and Harrison Way can be accessed via Amy Road only.
• Properties numbered between 15 McKellar Road and 23 McKellar Road (the work zone) can be accessed from either Amy Road or Talbot Road however delays may occur.
• Non-local traffic between Talbot Road and Amy Road will not be permitted between 7am and 5pm due to large machinery, and detours will be via Punchbowl Road.

Thursday 30 April 2026 - 7am to 5pm:

Asphalt placement works will commence between Talbot Road and Kintail Crescent and with a full road closure in place between Talbot Road and Amy Road, however local residents will be provided access.

• Access to properties between Talbot Road and Kintail Crescent will be maintained, though short delays may occur.
• Properties below Kintail Crescent should use Amy Road.
• All non-local traffic will be detoured via Punchbowl Road.

2 March 2026

Due to rain and wet ground conditions, scheduled works on McKellar Road have been postponed and will now commence from Tuesday, 3 March 2026, weather permitting.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while these works are rescheduled. Further updates will be provided if conditions result in any additional changes.

10 February 2026

The City of Launceston will be reconstructing deteriorating road pavement on McKellar Road, between Kintail Crescent and Talbot Road. The works will be completed by Crossroads Civil Contracting on behalf of the City of Launceston.

The project involves reconstructing the road pavement by removing the existing asphalt, replacing sections of road base, and applying a new asphalt surface. No footpath, stormwater or kerb and channel works are included in this project.

The upcoming works will be completed over a 4-week construction period, commencing March 2026.

Please note timing of works is subject to weather and unforeseen events may alter programming.

Works will commence at Kintail Crescent and progress toward Talbot Road. Minor traffic delays are expected during construction. Property access will be maintained at all times, and kerbside waste collection will continue as normal.

Please proceed with caution through the work zone and follow all signage and directions from on-site personnel.

Temporary Traffic Changes

During construction, changed traffic conditions will be necessary to allow the works to be completed safely and efficiently. This will include a reduced 40km/h speed limit through the work zone, with stop/slow traffic management.

Please allow for moderate traffic delays and extra time to travel. Please proceed with caution through the work zones and follow all signage and directions from onsite personnel.

Property access will be maintained throughout the duration of works.
