Food Organics and Garden Organics Collection (FOGO)

Everyone who receives the kerbside collection service in the urban areas of Lilydale and Launceston (except the CBD) is eligible for the City of Launceston's voluntary kerbside Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) collection. To opt in, a one-off registration fee of $65.00 will apply.

Users of the service will receive a kitchen caddy, a 240L (green lid) wheelie bin, along with instructions covering what can and can't be placed in the bin. Comprehensive information on the FOGO service is available in the document, FOGO frequently asked questions.(PDF, 440KB)

Is your property in the collection area? 

Check by viewing the online interactive collection map.  Your address will appear if it is in the FOGO collection area.

 

Agree to the Terms and Conditions

Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) collection service users are required to keep the organics free from contamination by following the instructions provided with the FOGO bin and keeping the bin free of packaged food or green waste bags and plastic bags (even if marked as biodegradable or compostable).

 

By registering online you acknowledge that you have read and accept the terms and conditions to proceed. We will send you a registration acknowledgement and request for payment within 5 days of receiving your registration.

What can go in your FOGO bin

- Meat, bones and fish
- Dairy
- Fruit
- De-packaged out of date food
- Branches
- Hair and fur
- Weeds
- Grass Clippings
- Small garden waste (leaves, flowers etc.)
- Pizza boxes
- Paper (newspapers, paper towel, junk mail etc.)

 

What can't go in your FOGO bin

- Green waste in bags*
- Plastic bags*
- Packaged food
- Compostable packaging**

(*Even if the bag is marked as biodegradable or compostable)

(** Even if the packaging is marked as biodegradable or compostable. The City of Launceston has temporarily suspended the collection and processing of compostable packaging while it awaits new national standards for compostable packaging to be implemented)
