The City of Launceston and partner community groups are planning to host a Carols in the Park event in Launceston's City Park on Sunday, December 22 from 5pm.
Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood said the event would feature a range of local performers and would be supported through the work of Council officers and community groups.
Mayor Garwood said he was pleased to see the Council stepping in, following the postponement this week of a community-led event which was to be held at the Silverdome.
"We will have more details to share with the community in coming weeks, but for now what's important is that there will be a Launceston Carols in the Park event in Launceston's majestic City Park this year," Mayor Garwood said.
"It's been fantastic to see Council officers and Councillors working together to make this event possible, noting particularly the efforts of Councillor Lindi McMahon and the Council's Tourism and Events Team Leader Angie Hart who have been working behind the scenes on this initiative."
