The City of Launceston is updating its Planning Scheme to bring it into consistency with the Tasmanian Planning Scheme framework, and we're inviting the community to have its say.

The Launceston Draft Local Provisions Schedule will be on public exhibition until Saturday 18th September 2021. During this time we will be making the new planning scheme available to the community to consider.

The documents will be available to view and download online at www.launceston.tas.gov.au and hard copies can be viewed at the Town Hall.

To help the community understand the scheme, the City of Launceston's Planning team will host a series of information sessions in coming weeks.

You're invited to come along and have a chat about what the new planning scheme will mean for you and our city.

The locations and dates for these sessions are:

● Kings Meadows Bowls Club: Tuesday, 3 August 2021 from 10am to 2pm

● Northern Suburbs Community Centre: Friday, 6 August 2021 from 10am to 2pm

● Lilydale Hall: Tuesday, 10 August 2021 from 10am to 2pm

● Launceston Town Hall Reception Room: Thursday, 19 August 2021 from 6pm to 9pm

Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten said the majority of zoning across the city would remain the same under the proposed local provisions.

"This public submission period gives landowners, as well as anyone else with an interest in the new local provisions, to have their say either for or against those recommendations and to raise any questions they may have directly with our planning officers," Mayor van Zetten said.

"I encourage people to take advantage of the upcoming information sessions and to provide their feedback as part of this important process."

If and when the proposed new provisions are endorsed by Council, they will then be submitted to the Tasmanian Planning Commission. The Tasmanian Planning Commission will then offer another opportunity for public comment.
