Fuel reduction burns at Carr Villa and Russell Plains

Published on 10 May 2022

If forecast weather conditions remain favourable, the City of Launceston will undertake two fuel reduction burns tomorrow, Wednesday May 11.

An additional burn will be undertaken at Russell Plains, following today's burn, as well as a burn at Carr Villa.

These are among 12 sites we've identified for fuel reduction burns as part of our 2022 program.

Detailed operational plans have been prepared for each burn including risk assessments and smoke modelling and dispersion.

While fire intensity is expected to be low, the burn will generate flames, smoke and ash which may persist until the next rainfall event.

People with medical conditions are advised to have a personal plan for avoiding smoke from the burn - more information is available from the Department of Health and Human Services website or the Asthma Foundation of Tasmania's website.

Notifications of scheduled burns are provided on the Tasmania Fire Service and City of Launceston websites.
