Launceston among nation's most generous cities

Published on 07 December 2022

Launceston has been named among Australia's top ten most generous cities, coming in at number six in GoFundMe's annual fundraiser roundup.

It's not the first time Launceston has made the list, with the city also represented in the nation's top ten most generous cities in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

Launceston Mayor Danny Gibson said he was not surprised to hear that Launceston had taken out a spot again in 2022.

"Northern Tasmanians are community oriented, they look out for one another, they help where they can and they support one another," Mayor Gibson said.

"On an annual basis, our community donates to local appeals like The Examiner's Empty Stocking Appeal, the ABC's Giving Tree Appeal, but also a whole host of other worthy local, national and international causes and charities.

"Importantly, we don't simply donate funds. We know that some 16.2% of Launceston's population undertakes some form of regular volunteering.

"Our city boasts a range of wonderful service clubs, community sheds, community gardens, sports clubs and charitable groups who make a difference on the ground each and every day.

"I'm proud to see Launceston on the list once more in 2022, and congratulate all those community-minded people in our city who donate their time or hard-earned money to worthy causes — you are helping to make our city and our world a better place."
