A new fundraising event is being organised in Launceston in aid of those communities impacted by bushfires across Australia.

Coordinated by the Rotary Club of Tamar Sunrise, the 'Launceston Responds: Helping our Mates' fundraising event will be held at the Tailrace Centre on Wednesday, January 29 from 6.30pm.

Tickets for the event are expected to go on sale through the Princess Theatre box office later this week.

The event will feature an evening of Tasmanian beverages, canapés, raffles, auctions, fundraising, and quality entertainment.

Three hundred tickets will be made available at $60 each.

All funds and donations will be managed through the Rotary Club of Tamar Sunrise to support the Rotary National Bushfires Appeal.

City of Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten said the devastation of the bushfires across the country was heartbreaking.
"The scenes of the destruction of these fires is unfathomable," Mayor van Zetten said.

"The loss of human life is beyond belief, the loss of homes and the loss of wildlife is something we can only hope to never witness again.

"That is why we must come together to do what we can to help those communities that has been devastated by these fires."

The City of Launceston's Customer Service Centre will be accepting donations of items that can be used for raffles, fundraising and auction items.
