Lilydale swimmers invited to community barbecue

Lilydale swimmers are invited to attend a free community barbecue to celebrate the completion of a $300,000 upgrade of the Lilydale Swimming Pool.

The community barbecue will be held at the Lilydale Swimming Pool on Friday, January 20 from 2pm to 3.30pm and will be facilitated by staff from the City of Launceston Leisure and Aquatic Centre.

The City of Launceston has recently completed a significant upgrade of the pool's facilities, replacing the roof and guttering on the change rooms building and installing two new energy efficient 60-kilowatt heat pumps.

Launceston Mayor Danny Gibson said the new heating infrastructure replaced the previous system which had reached the end of its useful life.

"The Lilydale Swimming Pool's water can now be heated to levels expected of a contemporary outdoor community swimming pool, and we're thrilled to see the pool receiving plenty of use this summer," Mayor Gibson said.

"We hope members of the Lilydale community will come down and experience what the pool has to offer and enjoy the barbecue as well.

"It promises to be a fun afternoon, and we hope to see plenty of Lilydale residents there."
