Mona Foma is coming to Launceston after the State Government announced funding for the event today.

Mona Foma Curator Brian Ritchie announced a mini Mofo will be held in Launceston on 12, 13 and 14 January 2018.

Three fantastic City of Launceston facilities will play host to the wild creativity of the event.

Internationally renowned artist Gotye will lead the Ondioline Orchestra in a tribute to the late electronic composer Jean-Jacques Perrey at the Albert Hall, with Tannery: Tasmanian Taiko and Leather Orchestra also taking to the stage.

Canadian contemporary dance and Godspeed You! Black Emperor will echo through the Princess Theatre.

Wrapping up a huge weekend will be a free block party in the courtyard of Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery at Inveresk. The full line-up is expected to be announced in December.

Acting Mayor Rob Soward said the City of Launceston is more than ready, willing and able to host the festival in 2018 and beyond.

"As a Council, we're excited at the prospect of working with the Mona Foma team — we're a city that's open for business, and that includes events of cultural significance," he said.

"We already host a number of well-organised and well supported community events such as Festivale and the recent Junction Arts Festival.

"Mini Mofo is expected to attract people from across the country and even the world, putting our great city firmly on the map."
