Punchbowl Reserve play space works underway

The City of Launceston is overseeing the redevelopment of the Punchbowl Reserve play space, with work on the $500,000 project now underway.
The redevelopment will see the installation of new play equipment, a fun flying fox, landscaping and planting works to enhance the spatial feel of the play space, and the renewal of the playground’s soft fall.
The project aims to create a safer, more engaging environment for children while complementing the natural beauty of the reserve. Works are expected to be complete before the end of the financial year, weather depending.
City of Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood said the redevelopment would ensure the popular facility catered to a new generation of Launceston children.
"Punchbowl Reserve is one of those places that a lot of Launceston families have great memories of,” Mayor Garwood said.
"Alongside the incredible natural setting, the play space has been well used by the community for many years.
"It’s getting to the point where the equipment has reached the end of its life, so this is a chance for us to refresh it and bring in some new and exciting play elements, including more accessible equipment.
"While the work is happening the current play area will be closed.
"We’re looking forward to seeing the new play space open and being enjoyed by families again later this year."
