The City of Launceston's Spring weed spraying program is underway.

Weed management is a big challenge across Australia, and Launceston is no different. Weeds can negatively impact soil erosion, water quality, infrastructure, and can  harm native plants and animals.

The City of Launceston operates a seasonal weed spraying program to control weeds in our public spaces, recreation areas and streets.

While we are paying close attention to emerging weed control technologies, our current weed spraying program involves the use of diluted glyphosate.

Local councils and the State Government are guided by the advice of the National Regulator — the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority — regarding the use of products containing glyphosate.

Current APVMA advice is that products containing glyphosate do not cause cancer in humans and are safe to use, provided they are used in accordance with the label instructions.

Council employees and contractors engaged to undertake ground-based spraying activities in Launceston are ChemCert trained, and undertake this work in accordance with all relevant codes of practice.

We take advantage of still weather conditions and less busy times of the day to undertake the program -- this means you may sometimes see our contractors at work at night or in the early hours of the morning.

The City of Launceston maintains a 'Do Not Spray' register for anyone who does not want weed spraying conducted near their property.

To have your property included on the register, phone our Customer Service Centre on 6323 3000.
