The City of Launceston wishes to advise motorists that the section of Cimitiere Street between Bathurst and Charles Streets will be closed to traffic for one week, starting Sunday, July 1.

The temporary road closure is required to allow cranes to operate near the C.H. Smith redevelopment.

The road will be re-opened to traffic on Monday, July 9.

Detours will be in place for the duration of the works, and motorists are asked to plan their routes in advance and please pay attention to any temporary traffic signage which may be in place.

Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten said the Council apologised for any inconvenience and he hoped motorists would be understanding.

"We have a lot of work on different projects underway around the city on behalf of our residents at the moment — 2018 is clearly a huge year for the city," Mayor van Zetten said.

"These kinds of road closures are necessary from time to time on different projects and we hope people will bear with us and plan their routes accordingly.

"We also have temporary traffic changes in place around the Brisbane St Mall and Civic Square for those redevelopments from time to time, and we'd ask motorists to pay attention to any signage around those sites and anywhere else across the municipality where our crews may be working."
