Alternatively, a one-off lifelong registration fee can be paid for the life of your dog.

Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten reminded new dog owners to ensure their four-legged friend was registered, microchipped and de-sexed.

"Dogs above the age of six months must be registered in the Launceston municipality," Mayor van Zetten said.

"This is not only a legislative requirement but it helps us return lost dogs to their rightful owners.

"If in the past 12 months your contact details have changed, your dog has passed away, or you've moved to a different municipality, this is an opportune time to reach out to our Customer Service team and let us know."
