Transformation planned for St Leonards Village Green

The City of Launceston has advertised a call for tenders from construction companies for the design and redevelopment of the St Leonards Village Green.
Investment in the redevelopment of the Village Green was earmarked in the St Leonards and Waverley Neighbourhood Plan, which noted the site's potential to become a vibrant, mixed-use community asset.
The redevelopment would include the construction of DDA-compliant pathways throughout the park, an expanded playspace, barbecues, public toilets, picnic tables and seating, bike parking, a drinking fountain and more.
City of Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood said the existing Village Green site, bordered by Benvenue Rd and Binalong Avenue, had few amenities, limited seating and no dedicated social gathering areas.
"The redevelopment of the St Leonards Village Green is a great opportunity for a suburb that’s continuing to grow,” Mayor Garwood said.
"This is about helping the community turn the site into a welcoming, modern public space that people can actually use, a place to meet, spend time, and be active.
"The location is a real strength, right in the heart of St Leonards, and we want to make the most of that by building on the feedback we heard through the St Leonards and Waverley Neighbourhood Plan last year.
"It’s an exciting project for the area, and we’re looking forward to working with the successful construction firm to deliver something the St Leonards community can be proud of."
