Due to unforeseen ground conditions, the road resealing works on Eastbourne Street have been delayed.

Weather permitting, the sealing is now scheduled to be completed on Friday 1 August 2025.

To help facilitate the works, we kindly ask that no vehicles be parked on the street between 7am and 5pm on this day.

Sealing works on Effingham Street are expected to be completed today, with Crop Street now finished.

Eastbourne Street is scheduled for sealing on Thursday 31 July 2025, weather permitting.

Works will start on Eastbourne Street on Friday, 25 July 2025.

The City of Launceston will be undertaking road surface resealing works on Effingham Street, Crop Street and Eastbourne Street from Thursday 24 July to Wednesday 30 July 2025 (excluding weekend).

Resealing will take place on all three streets over the scheduled dates. Please note that these dates are weather dependent and may change. If postponed, works will be rescheduled to the next suitable day.

Road Closure
During the works, each road will be closed to non-local traffic with detours in place. Local resident access will be maintained, however short delays of up to 15 minutes may occur. If you need to access or leave your property, please notify an on-site traffic controller who will assist you.

Please drive with care through the work zone and follow directions from workers on site.

Parking Restrictions
To assist with the works, there will be no on-street parking available on Effingham, Crop and Eastbourne Streets between 7am and 5pm while works are underway . Parking may resume once the new asphalt has been laid and the road is reopened.

What is involved in a road reseal?

The road resealing process involves removing the asphalt surface through a method called "milling" and then applying a new layer of asphalt.

In some cases, we overlay the existing asphalt surface with a new layer.

Although it typically takes just a few days to reseal a road, the benefits are long-lasting, with surfaces lasting up to 20-30 years, depending on usage.

Why do we reseal roads?

The City of Launceston's road resealing program is a form of preventative maintenance. As a road surface ages, it becomes brittle and cracks, allowing water to seep into the base layers, which can cause potholes and pavement failures, eventually leading to costly and disruptive road reconstructions.

Resealing is a cost-effective and faster method of repairing roads before they require major intervention.

How are roads chosen to be resealed?

The City of Launceston's four-year road reseal program was developed using data from a recent road network condition assessment carried out by a professional third-party contractor.

Roads included in this program were prioritised based on their condition ratings, the age of the road assets, their location according to the road hierarchy, and asset grouping.
