Tamar Street and York Street Road Resealing
The City of Launceston will be overseeing road surface resealing night works on Tamar Street, between Cimitiere Street and Brisbane Street, and on York Street, between Tamar Street and George Street. These works will be carried out by Crossroads Civil Contracting.

Please note that scheduled dates are weather dependent and may change. If postponed, works will be rescheduled to the next suitable night.
During working hours, you may notice increased noise from machinery, as well as additional lighting in the area to support night works. While we will make every effort to minimise disruption, some disturbance is unavoidable. We appreciate your patience and understanding while these essential works are carried out.
Road Closures: During working hours, the roads will be closed to through traffic, with detours in place. Access to local properties will be maintained, however short delays may occur. Traffic controllers will be on site to assist. Please drive with care through the work zone and follow directions from workers.
Parking Restrictions: To support the works, please ensure no vehicles are parked on the street between 6pm and 6am on scheduled nights. On-street parking may resume outside of these hours.
What is involved in a road reseal?
The road resealing process involves removing the asphalt surface through a method called "milling" and then applying a new layer of asphalt.
In some cases, we overlay the existing asphalt surface with a new layer.
Although it typically takes just a few days to reseal a road, the benefits are long-lasting, with surfaces lasting up to 20-30 years, depending on usage.
Why do we reseal roads?
The City of Launceston's road resealing program is a form of preventative maintenance. As a road surface ages, it becomes brittle and cracks, allowing water to seep into the base layers, which can cause potholes and pavement failures, eventually leading to costly and disruptive road reconstructions.
Resealing is a cost-effective and faster method of repairing roads before they require major intervention.
How are roads chosen to be resealed?
The City of Launceston's four-year road reseal program was developed using data from a recent road network condition assessment carried out by a professional third-party contractor.
Roads included in this program were prioritised based on their condition ratings, the age of the road assets, their location according to the road hierarchy, and asset grouping.
