The City of Launceston will lodge a Development Application for major works at North Bank next week.

The $9.15 million North Bank project will transform the area into a major new recreational space for Launceston's residents to enjoy.

The application will be for the majority of the remainder of works at North Bank after the Council submitted a DA for initial civil works in July.

This latest application will take in all works at the site other than the car park, the signature play equipment and major structures such as an amenities block.

The North Bank redevelopment will feature four distinct play zones, and all-abilities play equipment, as well as recreational trails, event spaces and natural play areas.

The jewel in the crown will be a signature piece, 11.7m-tall 'Sky Walk', the largest in the State, with a further announcement on other signature equipment expected in coming months.

The project is expected to be completed by the middle of next year, with work on the pedestrian and bike bridge across the North Esk at Seaport due to start in the next several months.

The proposed 120m-long bridge would have a central span of around 60m, designed to withstand flooding.

The bridge will have a width of 4m, to allow pedestrians and cyclists ample space to safely pass each other.

Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten said the North Bank project promised to create an exciting recreational area for the city.

"North Bank will become a fantastic recreational hub for the city. We are incredibly excited about this project, and the way it is going to transform a riverfront area of our city and open it up to new possibilities."
