The Hobart Twilight Market is touching down in Launceston's Civic Square on Friday night for a special pre-Christmas extravaganza.

This one-off event will see more than 40 stallholders pack into the recently refurbished square from 4pm through until 9pm.

The market will feature a diverse range of food and locally crafted small batch drinks alongside a myriad of design stalls as well as live music from local talent.

And for the younger set, jolly Santa Claus and his elf will be dropping in between 5.30 and 7.30pm.

The public is also encouraged to engage with stallholders, who are more than happy to share their story.

The Hobart Twilight Market is in its fifth season operating on the first and third Friday's of each month at Long Beach Sandy Bay and the last Friday of each month at Brooke Street Pier in the state's south. It is the first time they have taken their travelling feast to Launceston.

Hobart Twilight Market spokesman Justin Davies said the idea of trialling a market in Launceston was simply to grow the market's brand.

"The whole idea of the market from day one was to provide a platform for emerging small businesses that weren't in a position to open a shop front and to provide the community with a place to connect," Mr Davies said.

"Civic Square is the perfect space to present the market to a new audience, it's a very open space, well planned for public events and located in a very central part of the Launceston CBD.

City of Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten said he was thrilled to see another major event like the Hobart Twilight Market taking advantage of the redeveloped Civic Square.

"This will be the largest market we've held in this space since the redevelopment was complete and I certainly encourage people from right across the region to take advantage of what will undoubtedly be a wonderful night of food and wine, festivities and unique crafts stalls - all of which would be ideal for that last minute Christmas gift idea," Mayor van Zetten said.
