Launceston Visitor Information Centre on the move

The City of Launceston's popular Launceston Visitor Information Centre will relocate to a new space within the Town Hall this month.
For over two decades, the LVIC has been a vital hub for promoting Launceston and Northern Tasmania as a premier destination, contributing significantly to the region’s $230 million visitor economy.
City of Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood said the move from the facility's current Cameron Street premises, prompted by the upcoming expiry of its lease, marked a strategic opportunity to enhance the centre’s impact and accessibility and realise new operational efficiencies.
"The team at the Launceston Visitor Information Centre provides a really important service to visitors and locals, and the relocation to the Town Hall will build its prominence," Mayor Garwood said.
"To ensure a smooth transition, the LVIC will temporarily operate from an interim space within the Town Hall's Customer Service Centre from Monday, October 13.
"Refurbishment works will then take place over the Christmas and New Year period, delivering a revitalised Customer Service Centre with a dedicated Visitor Information space ready for the peak summer season."
The new location within the Town Hall will offer:
• Greater visibility and convenience: Positioned in the heart of Civic Square, the LVIC will benefit from increased foot traffic and proximity to other services, creating a seamless experience for visitors and locals seeking information about Launceston’s attractions, events, and experiences.
• Expanded retail opportunities: The larger space will allow for an enhanced range of locally inspired gifts, souvenirs, and clothing, further promoting Tasmanian products.
• Stronger support for tourism: The relocation will strengthen partnerships with local businesses and tourism operators, showcasing the collaborative efforts that drive the region’s vibrant visitor economy.
"The City of Launceston is committed to maintaining uninterrupted services during this transition," Mayor Garwood said.
"The LVIC team will continue to assist with travel itineraries, bookings, and promoting the region’s diverse offerings, from AFL games at UTAS Stadium and events like Festivale to the unique experiences tied to Launceston’s UNESCO City of Gastronomy status."
