Myrtle Park to reopen on October 22

The City of Launceston will reopen the ever-popular Myrtle Park camping ground to the public on October 22.

At today's ordinary meeting, Councillors also unanimously supported a recommendation to set overnight camping fees at the site at $20 per night per site, up to a maximum of 10 people - the same price as last year.

City of Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten said he was thrilled that Council would be in a position to reopen the park to the public in time for the upcoming summer holiday season.

"The new operators will be onsite 24/7 and are excited at the prospect of a busy summer season. Given how popular the park has proven to be, it wouldn't surprise me if it was fully booked out over the entire holiday period," Mayor van Zetten said.

This year, 30 camp sites will be available to the public - up from 20 last year - with 15 sites boasting river frontage.

The hall will be available for bookings, while the day-use areas such as the tennis courts and the kiosk, will also reopen.

Bookings for camp sites will open to the public from 9am on Monday, September 27 through the Launceston Visitor Information Centre and online via the City of Launceston website.

"The Council fully appreciates how important and how popular Myrtle Park camp ground is to the community," Mayor van Zetten said.

"Once the grounds do reopen, we fully expect it to be booked out and I would encourage anyone who wants to stay at Myrtle Park over summer to get in early."

The park will close on April 30, 2022 for a three-month period over winter, and is expected to reopen again for operation in August.
