The City of Launceston is gearing up for a huge summer of swimming, with a range of maintenance works and upgrades planned at three Council swimming facilities in coming weeks.

The City of Launceston Leisure & Aquatic Centre's popular outdoor swimming and diving pools have opened today, with the outdoor waterslide expected to open on Saturday, November 1, following maintenance works.

In mid-October, preparation works will begin on the First Basin Swimming Pool in the Cataract Gorge Reserve, which is also expected to open to the public on Saturday, November 1, weather depending.

Meanwhile, preparation works are also underway at the Lilydale Swimming Pool, which will open to the public on Monday, December 1.

Later this month the Council will also undertake maintenance works on the Launceston Leisure & Aquatic Centre's children's play equipment, with works taking place between Monday, October 13 and Monday, October 26.

All three swimming facilities will be regularly patrolled by Launceston Leisure & Aquatic Centre lifeguards over the summer period.

City of Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood said the Council was committed to providing a range of swimming options to the community each year.

"The City of Launceston offers a range of swimming options to our community including the City of Launceston Leisure & Aquatic Centre, and free swimming options like the First Basin Swimming Pool and Lilydale Swimming Pool," Mayor Garwood said.

"Ahead of the opening of our outdoor pools, we're undertaking a range of maintenance and improvement works — including for our waterslide and children's play equipment at the Launceston Leisure & Aquatic Centre, as well as a range of works at the First Basin and Lilydale Swimming Pools to ready them for summer, like cleaning, painting and mechanical servicing of pumps and filtration systems.

"We're expecting a bumper summer of swimming and you'll see our crews working in the weeks ahead at the aquatic centre, First Basin and Lilydale to ensure our pools are ready for action."
