Playspace investments in pipeline
Published on 25 September 2025
The City of Launceston is progressing exciting redevelopments of two of the city's most popular playspaces, enhancing recreational opportunities for Northern Tasmanian families and visitors alike
The Council has recently advertised a call for construction tenders for the redevelopment of the Punchbowl Reserve playspace, along with a Development Application for a redevelopment of the City Park playspace.
The $510,000 Punchbowl Reserve playspace redevelopment will see the installation of new play equipment, landscaping and planting works, and the renewal of the playground’s softfall. This upgrade aims to create a safer, more engaging environment for children while boosting the natural beauty of the reserve. Construction tenders will be open for submission, with work set to commence following a selection process.
The $1.5m City Park playspace redevelopment aims to breathe new life into this popular destination. The plan includes retiring ageing equipment and introducing exciting new features such as swings, a unique train-themed play structure, and modern toilet facilities.
A Development Application was advertised last week, inviting community feedback as part of the planning process.
These investments reflect the City of Launceston's Strategic Plan goals to create inclusive, thriving public places we can all enjoy.
