Road line marking works scheduled

The City of Launceston is preparing to carry out essential road line marking works across key streets later this month to enhance road safety and visibility for all road users.
The works will target high-traffic CBD areas where many existing road markings have faded or worn to the end of their useful life after years of heavy use, weather exposure, and traffic.
Line marking will take place in CBD areas including York Street, George Street, and Paterson Street, as well as Victoria Bridge and the intersection of Hobart Road and Quarantine Road at Kings Meadows.
Refreshed line marking — including centre lines, edge lines, lane markings, pedestrian crossings, giveway/stop lines, and parking bays — is critical for clear guidance, reducing the risk of confusion or accidents, and ensuring compliance with road safety standards.
To minimise disruption to businesses, residents, and visitors in the busy CBD, the program will include a mix of day and night works. While every effort will be made to keep impacts low, motorists should expect some temporary lane closures, detours, reduced speeds, and short delays during active periods. City of Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood asked people to plan ahead and allow a little extra time while the works are carried out.
"Good, clear road markings might seem simple, but they play a big role in keeping people safe on our roads," Mayor Garwood said.
"Whether you're driving, walking or riding, they help everyone move through the city more safely and confidently.
"This work will make a real difference to safety and navigation across the network. We’re running a mix of day and night shifts to try and keep disruption to a minimum, but we really appreciate people’s patience while it’s underway.
"We’re not expecting any road closures, but there will be traffic management in place at times, including short detours and reduced speed limits while the crews are working.
