Survey to help shape your local neighbourhood

City of Launceston residents have an opportunity to help shape their community through a nationwide survey on liveability in their local neighbourhoods.

The inaugural 2021 Australian Liveability Census will survey residents from across capital and regional centres Australia-wide to create a nationally consistent, online platform for measuring and tracking liveability from the community's perspective.

Launceston residents can have their say by rating 50 aspects of the neighbourhood they live in, with questions divided across a number of themes, including:

·         Community (a sense of connection, neighbourhood resilience, diversity)

·         Environmental sustainability (protection of nature, landscaping, sustainable behaviours)

·         Housing and development (housing diversity, cost, quality, density)

·         Local character (heritage, uniqueness, identity)

·         Local economy (employment opportunities, local businesses)

·         Movement (active and public transport, connectivity, car accessibility)

·         Open space (spaces suitable for play, quality of public space, physical comfort)

·         Social facilities and services (family and community services, education options)

City of Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten said the data - which will be de-identified and anonymous - will be invaluable in understanding what the community considers to be an ideal neighbourhood, as well as the performance of the places they live, work and play in.

 "I encourage all Launceston residents who take pride in their local neighbourhoods and wish to have a voice in how these neighbourhoods will be developed and shaped into the future to complete the survey - it will only take 15 minutes and can help make a difference," Mayor van Zetten said.

 The survey will run through until June 30.
