Montifiore Street, Morialta Avenue and Young Court Road Resealing

The City of Launceston will be overseeing road surface resealing works on Montifiore Street, Morialta Avenue and Young Court. These works will be carried out by Quickseal Asphalting.

Works will begin on Young Court, before progressing to Morialta Avenue and then Montifiore Street. The schedule may be adjusted subject to weather conditions and operational requirements.

Traffic Management: During working hours, alternating lane closures will be in place while works are underway. Traffic controllers will manage vehicle movements and assist motorists through the work area. Access to residential properties will be maintained, however short delays may occur.

Parking Restrictions: To support the works, please ensure no vehicles are parked on these roads between 7am and 5pm on scheduled days. On-street parking may resume outside of these hours.

What is involved in a road reseal?

The road resealing process involves removing the asphalt surface through a method called "milling" and then applying a new layer of asphalt.

In some cases, we overlay the existing asphalt surface with a new layer.

Although it typically takes just a few days to reseal a road, the benefits are long-lasting, with surfaces lasting up to 20-30 years, depending on usage.

Why do we reseal roads?

The City of Launceston's road resealing program is a form of preventative maintenance. As a road surface ages, it becomes brittle and cracks, allowing water to seep into the base layers, which can cause potholes and pavement failures, eventually leading to costly and disruptive road reconstructions.

Resealing is a cost-effective and faster method of repairing roads before they require major intervention.

How are roads chosen to be resealed?

The City of Launceston's four-year road reseal program was developed using data from a recent road network condition assessment carried out by a professional third-party contractor.

Roads included in this program were prioritised based on their condition ratings, the age of the road assets, their location according to the road hierarchy, and asset grouping.
