The City of Launceston offers various forms of assistance for concession rates and charitable organisation rates.

Concessional Rates Remissions for individuals

Eligible Concession Card holders may apply to receive a rates remission, more information below.

Rates Remission details

  • The 2022-23 maximum cap for Pensioner Rates Remissions is 30% of General Rates. 
  • The 2022-23 maximum cap for Pensioner Rates Remissions is  20% maximum (of the fire service rates)

The applicant must be liable to pay rates on the property and be the card holder’s principal place of residence. In the case of joint ownership, at least one title owner must meet the eligibility criteria. There is a limit of one remission per financial year, per pensioner household.

Any pensioner who has not previously received a remission should have one of the above Concession Cards dated on or before 1 July 2022. You can apply anytime from July 2022 and before 31 March 2023.

Eligible concession cards

Pensioners who hold one of the following concession cards may be eligible for a rates remission:
  • Services Australia or DVA Pensioner Concession Card
  • Services Australia Health Care Card (but not a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card)
  • DVA Veteran Gold Card – inscribed with TPI or ‘War Widow’ whose Veteran Gold Card and entitlements are issued under the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2004.

Any existing pensioners verified by Centrelink or the Department of Veterans' Affairs, that have previously applied and received the remission, will have the concession automatically show as a reduction on their rates notices provided eligibility has been verified with the Department of Treasury. New pensioners should complete a Rates Remission Application Form.

How to submit an application:

Download a Rates Remission Application Form.

Fill in the form and email it to contactus@launceston.tas.gov.au with a copy of your concession card.

Alternatively, you can request, complete or submit your form at our Customer Service Centre.

 

Please note: The rebate provisions are detailed under the Local Government (Rates and Charges Remissions) Act 1991 (Tas) however eligibility for a pensioner remission is determined by the state government's Department of Treasury and Finance. 

 
Charitable Organisation Rates Remissions 

Some organisations may be eligible for an exemption or part remission of their rates if they meet certain eligibility criteria. To determine if your organisation is eligible, please review the Rating Exemptions and Remissions for Charitable Organisations Policy(PDF, 23KB).

Please include your organisation Australian Business Number (ABN) and Australian Taxation Office (ATO) status noting the organisation details.
