South Esk Road Guardrail Repair

Following damage sustained earlier this year, the City of Launceston will shortly commence guardrail repair works at the hairpin bend where South Esk Road meets Bain Terrace.

The works will be undertaken by AWC Pty Ltd on behalf of the City of Launceston.

Start Date* Completion Date General Working Hours
 Tuesday, 28 October 2025 Friday, 19 December 2025
  • Monday to Friday - 7am to 5pm
  • Saturday and Sunday emergency works only

*Please note, the start date of these works is subject to final discussions with TasWater. Construction is expected to begin on either Tuesday 28 October or Tuesday 4 November 2025, with completion anticipated before the end of the year.

Timing of works is subject to weather and unforeseen events may alter programming.

This project will involve:

  • Installation of temporary rock fall catch fences
  • Removal of existing damaged safety barrier
  • Construction of additional drainage
  • Construction of a new retaining wall
  • Road asphalting
  • Installation of new safety barrier.

Temporary Traffic Changes

Due to limited space at the site, there will be no through access between South Esk Road and Bain Terrace during the works.

  • South Esk Road will operate as a no-through road between South Bank and Bain Terrace.
  • Bain Terrace will operate as a no-through road between Delamere Crescent and South Esk Road.

Property access will be maintained, and kerbside waste collection will continue as normal.

The map below highlights the zones and traffic arrangements.
