Help us decorate the city this Christmas with your favourite festive drawing!

Deck the Malls is a fun festive art activity for children of all ages and abilities, inviting children to create a drawing about what Christmas means to them to be displayed around the city!

Deck the Malls is divided into the following two categories:

Prep-aged children and younger

Entries from children who are Prep-age or younger will have their drawings displayed on decorations installed around street poles in Launceston during the Christmas period.

Year 1 - Year 12 students
15 winning entries will be selected from this category to have their artwork displayed on banners in the Brisbane Street Mall during the Christmas period.

How to get involved:

  1. Download and print the Deck the Malls entry form via (insert Link) , or in person at any of the drop-off locations listed.
    All entries must be created on the entry form.
  2. Draw a picture of what Christmas means to you in the artwork area on the entry form.
  3. The form details will need to be completed, and a parent or guardian will need to read the terms and conditions (available below) and sign the entry form to confirm they have read and agree to the terms and conditions of entry.
  4. Submit your entry in person or online by Friday, 17 October, 2025.

In person
Submit your completed entry in the submission boxes at any of the following locations:
• Town Hall Customer Service Centre, 18/28 St John St, Launceston
• Launceston Library, 71 Civic Square, Launceston
• Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery
• Northern Suburbs Community, 49 George Town Rd, Newnham

Online
• Scan or take a photo of your entry. If taking a photo of your artwork please make sure the artwork is clearly visible without shadows.
• Fill-out the form details and upload your artwork to the online form via the link below.
Submit the form and ensure you keep the original copy of your artwork.
Important: entry forms must be fully complete and signed by a parent or guardian.

Terms and conditions

Parent or guardian consent:

You will need consent from a parent or guardian to submit your artwork.

Submissions:

The artwork submitted must be the original work of the entrant themselves and not infringe the copyright, moral rights or other rights of any third party. Artworks that are deemed to not belong to or be created by the entrant will NOT be eligible for display. The City of Launceston will not accept any artwork that is offensive in any way. If you, the guardian, and your child wish for their name to be displayed beside their drawing, this will need to be included on the drawing itself.

 One artwork only per entrant.

 Must be on paper (NOT board).

 Must be unmounted and unframed.

  Must be drawn within the provided template

 Must be vertical.

 Any art materials or combination of art materials may be used (e.g. paint, pencil, pastels, paper collage) but the artwork must be two- dimensional.

Return of artwork: The Council may destroy or otherwise dispose of any entry in any manner it deems fit and shall be under no liability whatsoever to the entrant in respect of the artwork so destroyed or disposed of.

Licensing the artwork: Entrants grant the Council non-exclusive rights to reproduce their artwork in material form, to photograph, publish and/or communicate it to the public for the following event-related purposes, and anything incidental to such purposes, by the Council, event partners and sponsors: marketing, publicity, educational and publication uses for the Council, and the event in all media, including but not limited to electronic/digital, broadcasting and print media, in perpetuity. Where a name has been added to the artwork submitted, the Council will attribute the artists as the author of the work and reproduce the work in full. Details of the work may be used at the Council's discretion for non-commercial purposes.

Copyright:

The City of Launceston reserves the right to use any submitted drawings in promotional materials as part of the Christmas 2025 art installation.

By submitting an entry to Deck the Malls you agree to grant the City of Launceston (Council) a licence to use your artwork.

Consent

I, the undersigned, agree to and provide permission for the artwork submitted for use by the City of Launceston as part of the 2025 Christmas art installation. If signing as a parent or guardian, I have explained this consent form and sought the consent of the child.

I authorise the use or reproduction of the artwork referred to above for purposes of publishing materials related to the activities, programs and services of the City of Launceston without acknowledgement and without being entitled to remuneration or compensation. The artwork may appear in print, electronic or video media and may be available to a global audience through the internet.

I acknowledge the ownership of the artwork will be retained by the City of Launceston. I understand and agree that if I wish to withdraw this authorisation, it will be my responsibility to inform the City of Launceston.
