Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) Collection

Anyone who receives the kerbside collection service in the Launceston municipality (excluding the CBD) is eligible for the voluntary kerbside Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) collection.

FOGO is an opt-in service and a one-off registration fee of $65.00 will apply per bin.

Users of the service will receive a kitchen caddy and a 240-litre (green lid) wheelie bin per application, along with instructions on what can and cannot be placed in the bin.

How to register

To register, residents must first read the Terms and Conditions outlined below. Then residents can either apply:

By registering online, you must acknowledge that you have read and accept the terms and conditions to proceed. We will send you a registration acknowledgement and request for payment within five business days of receiving your registration.

Terms and Conditions

Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) collection service users are required to keep the organics free from contamination by following the instructions provided with the FOGO bin and by keeping the bin free of packaged food, green waste bags and plastic bags (even if marked as biodegradable or compostable).

What can go in your FOGO bin

  • Meat, bones and fish
  • Dairy
  • Fruit
  • De-packaged out of date food
  • Branches*
  • Hair and fur
  • Weeds
  • Grass clippings
  • Small garden waste (leaves, flowers, etc)
  • Pizza boxes (dirty)
  • Paper (soiled or shredded)**

*Maximum 20cm in diameter

**Paper should be recycled in most cases, however, if it is too small for recycling or is contaminated with organics (e.g. food) then it should go in the FOGO bin. 

What cannot go in your FOGO bin

  • Green waste in bags*
  • Plastic bags*
  • Packaged food
  • Nappies
  • Logs and tree stumps

*Even if the bag is marked as biodegradable or compostable.
