Top Tassie acts to wow AFL crowds

Two of Tasmania's hottest musical acts will grace the stage over the weekend as part of the AFL football extravaganza at UTAS Stadium.

Triple J favourites Sumner (pictured) will perform before the first bounce and again at half time at the match between Sydney and the Giants on Saturday.

Then on Sunday, Launceston rock outfit The Bad Dad Orchestra will entertain the crowd at the game between the Western Bulldogs and Essendon.

Hailing from the native woodlands of lutruwita in Northern Tasmania, duo Chloe and Jack are well known to Triple J audiences for their melodic indie dance/electronic tunes.

Sumner caught the attention of the music world in 2018 following the release of their debut track 'Pictures', followed by their EP 'All That I Am'.

The duo has toured extensively on the festival music circuit, including Party in the Paddock and Falls, and have supported top acts such as Vera Blue, Pnau and Montaigne.

Sumner won the Josh Pyke Partnership in 2018 and were signed by the Lab78 label earlier this year.

The Bad Dad Orchestra is a collective of nine dads from Northern Tasmania, all of whom have played key roles in the State's vibrant music scene over the past decade. 

Now the Dads are basking in their inherent “dadness” and wowing audiences across the State with their signature high-energy rock n' soul live experience.

Formed in 2015, the Bad Dad Orchestra has graced the stages of many great festivals across Tasmania and Queensland, including the Queenscliff Music Festival, the Caloundra Music Festival, Falls Festival and Party in the Paddock, as well as the Taste of Tasmania, Festivale and the Launceston Beer Festival, to name but a few.

The guys have supported a number of big-name mainland acts, including the Black Sorrows, Darryl Braithwaite, Taxiride and the Wolfe Brothers.

This weekend's musical performances are proudly supported by the City of Launceston.

City of Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten said that the Council is delighted to support Launceston's energetic and diverse local music scene at a time when artists are facing significant challenges as a result of the ongoing COVID pandemic.

"It is vitally important that we help bring live music back to the Stadium and to help make these wonderful events a true celebration," Mayor van Zetten said.
